O cantor de reggae Junior Reid considera que o festival Reggae Sumfest está a privar os fãs de actuações de qualidade e música consciente, ao excluir os veteranos do seu line-up a cada ano.
Por essa razão, o artista decidiu e lançou o seu próprio festival. No lançamento do One Blood Family Fest, no Jamaica Pegasus Hotel em Kingston, Reid falou sobre não ter sido convidados para o Sumfest desde o seu início, há três décadas atrás.
“If yuh deprive Junior Reid fans dem from seeing him, yuh know what goin’ happ’n? Di music goin’ fall”, disse.
“Because di youths dem nah go have no man fi teach an’ look up to. Mi think it was me alone it happening to, but from mi si other artist roun’ here to—great artist— weh dem put fi siddung an’ present to di people weh dem waan present. Suh mi seh mi haffi come wid di One Blood Festival fi bring back da unity deh in the music”, continuou.
O One Blood Family Fest, que deve o seu nome ao hit de Reid “One Blood” (1988), aconteceu no dia 3 de Junho, em St. Ann.
O festival contou com actuações de Sister Carol, Sizzla Kalonji, Jahmiel, Stephen Marley, Julian Marley, Louie Culture, Big Youth, entre outros.
